Partnering for sustainable, culturally grounded outcomes
Our commitment to partnership, purpose and progress
Rooted in partnership and guided by mātauranga (knowledge), we work alongside iwi Māori and Māori organisations to co-create strategies and projects that reflect culture, strengthen communities, and honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) – creating outcomes that are sustainable, authentic and community-led.

We recognise that meaningful engagement with Māori is an ongoing journey of partnership, respect and shared purpose.

Ō Mātau Rautaki Māori (our Māori Strategy) reflects our commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi), deepening our cultural understanding, and creating opportunities that benefit tangata whenua and the communities we serve.

Our vision is to walk alongside iwi, hapū, Māori organisations and businesses as trusted partners, delivering projects and solutions that uphold Māori values, protect te taiao (the environment) and create enduring social, cultural, environmental and economic outcomes.

With nearly 100 years under our belt, and roots that trace back to Ōtautahi Christchurch, our commitment to genuine Māori partnerships and inclusion isn’t just part of our story, it’s key to the future we’re building. It’s how we create lasting impact, together with our clients and partners.

GHD’s Māori Business Services work alongside iwi Māori, Māori and non-Māori organisations to bring their aspirations to life. Together, we develop strategies, grow partnerships, and deliver projects that reflect tikanga Māori (Maōri values) and mātauranga. From supporting asset development and resilience to carrying out cultural assessments and integrating te reo Māori, our approach is about honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and making sure that outcomes are sustainable, culturally grounded, and shaped by the communities they serve.

Policy, strategy and partnerships
We work alongside iwi Māori and Māori organisations to co-develop strategies that reflect their aspirations. We also help build strong partnerships with non-Māori organisations through shared opportunities and alignment. With clear strategies, milestones and measurable outcomes, we create the conditions for genuine collaboration and collective success.
Asset development and infrastructure resilience
We support iwi Māori and Māori organisations in developing, upgrading and maintaining assets that reflect cultural values and aspirations. Our multi-disciplinary, tailored approach considers growth, maintenance and resilience to disasters, keeping assets sustainable, functional and culturally aligned into the future.
Project management
We deliver project management services in partnership with iwi Māori and Māori organisations, embedding a Māori-centric approach that reflects priorities and integrates Māori values, tikanga, and mātauranga. This makes sure aspirations are advocated for and outcomes are both sustainable and culturally aligned.
Cultural impact assessments
We undertake cultural assessments that weave mātauranga Māori and heritage values into project planning. This includes impact assessments, values mapping, and iwi/hapū engagement to deliver projects that are respectful, compliant and connected to the communities they serve.

Ō mātou rautaki Māori (our Māori strategy)

Our rautaki Māori (Māori strategy) guides how we engage, listen and learn together – building partnerships grounded in trust, reciprocity and respect.

Anchored in te ao Māori (the Māori worldview) and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, it shapes how we think, connect and deliver for the communities we serve. Honouring Te Tiriti means walking alongside Māori, making space for their voices in decisions that matter and working together toward shared goals.

By supporting Māori aspirations for economic growth and the protection of cultural, social, and environmental taonga (treasures), we aim to create outcomes that benefit everyone.

Our rautaki Māori helps us bring these commitments to life – building strong partnerships, embedding Māori knowledge in our work, creating meaningful career pathways, and deepening relationships with iwi and hapū. Already, it’s influencing how we collaborate, design, and deliver, reflecting our genuine intent to help shape a more inclusive, bicultural future.
